The AI Mission

When Open AI's ChatGPT emerged into the public consciousness in November 2022, Alan realised that an AI Tsunami would eventually sweep across the world and that if this hit an unprepared developing world, it would devastate their industries, cause major social disruption and could widen the Digital Divide even more. Conversely, if the opportunities enabled by AI could be harnessed effectively, that same AI could be used to fast-track economic development across the Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). He recognised that this was an unprecedented opportunity to create the fairer, safer world that he and other development professionals had been trying to achieve during his whole professional career.

He therefore decided to make it his mission to try to inform and help Governments and key groups in the developing world understand the urgency and the need to prepare. His various articles, publications, introductory books on AI Impacts, his conference presentations and regular webinars explain the likely impacts on countries and on different groups and the opportunities that are emerging so that they can not only survive but thrive in the coming AI era.

His "explainer" videos on his YouTube 11 Channels in various languages are done through his persona as @aigrandad999.alanross. The channels focus is practical and educational rather than entertainment and covers how AI affects different groups of society, how AI can be used to fast-track delivery of the SDG's and how current technological disruptions added to the disruption from AI will make unprecedented changes in society and the world.
